20.02.09 - Best night ever!!! (part 1 - pre concert)
Friday 20th February: Best night of my entire life.
But maybe I should start from the start. That morning I woke up like it was any other morning, the realisation that I was going to a Fall Out Boy concert and actually meeting them still hadn’t entirely hit me, most probably because I’ve spent several months looking forward to it. Well anyway, that day I had planned to go shopping with Becky at Chermside so we could actually meet up before the concert. We stuffed around for the better half of the morning trying to organise buses to get to Chermside. We then stuffed around trying to find Becky, before realising we were in entirely different shopping centres. Well we’d planned to meet up in front of Jay Jays when we finally realised that we were in different stores, so instead of wasting a great opportunity to buy a new pair of jeans, I went in and looked at the girl’s jeans. Unfortunately they only make dark purple skinny legs in Men’s sizes at Jay Jays so rather than give up I decided to try on the smallest size of male jeans possible. I have to confess right now: they didn’t fit, I could pull them up, but I could not actually get the zipper up. So instead of trying to starve myself or attempt to stretch the top of hips of the jeans so I could fit them, I tried the next size up. They were a lot better but a little big and long. I bought them anyway, and while at the counter I looked at the wall with hats on it. I squeed at the Patrick hats (otherwise known as fedora hats) and asked if I could try one on. I tried it on and instantly fell in love with it, and it was only $15 so I bought it. I was planning on buying the hat for Patrick, but I loved it far too much to part with it. The rest of my shopping event was pretty uneventful, with me wearing the Patrick around every single store with my red Fall Out Boy shirt.
So we were there until sometime after 1pm when dad picked us up on the way home from work. We went home, ate some KFC we’d picked up on the way home. Once we’d arrived home, I decided I’d go pick out my outfit. I decided to wear my Little Miss Fall Out Boy tee, my new dark purple skinnies, and my brand new Patrick hat. I’d already chosen something to get signed: my Folie A Deux CD booklet from my American copy. I gave my sister my Overcast Kids postcard picture to get signed because she didn’t have anything else/ Between texting Becky and Katie about what we were wearing, and what time we should get to the box office to pick our tickets, we got ready to go. I ended up bringing some cash, and stuffing it deep into the pockets of my jeans because I was nervous they wouldn’t have an ATM. I brought my handbag which I was hoping I wouldn’t have to bring but because I was having to bring my confirmation email for tickets and meet and greet, my CD booklet, my phone, and my ID card I though it’d be a better idea then trying to carry it in my hands all night.
So we drove to the Brisbane Entertainment Centre in Boondall in the rain. Yes, the weather was awful and actually storming so I was a little nervous. Fortunately, Brisbane Entertainment Centre is actually a HUGE indoors arena. So we went through the very difficult parking system they’d set up and walked up towards the Administration building where I’d planned to meet up with Katie. On the way through I saw all the people lined up at the bottom of a large flight of stairs picking up their tickets through box office (which is what I had to do). Scarily enough although we’d never met, Becky and Shannen instantly recognised me from the description I’d given them of my outfit. So I went over to where they were standing in line and talked to them for the first time. First thing we ever said to each other was
Becky: wow, you are short.
Yes, it was a little awkward but they were really cool. Next up Katie came and found me, giving me a huge hug. We talked for a while because we actually used to go to the same high school and never realised until last year that she was one of my best friend’s neighbours. A small world I know, especially since we’re both Overcast Kids.
We stood in line and talked and freaked out everytime a door upstairs was opened or moved for about an hour. They played some music while we were in line, oddly enough it was mostly The Academy Is…, My Chemical Romance, and artists not related to any of the artists playing that night. Finally at 5.30 the doors were opened and we were talked to by a security guard who warned us if we ran up the stairs, that we would be sent back to the bottom and have to walk back up because the stairs were pretty wet.
I’ve decided I’m going to continue this in two blogs because this will be EXTREMELY long if I make it one blog. So enjoy the next section.
